The three most common natural building stones are limestone, sandstone, and granite.
- Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate: CaCO3).
- Sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed of sand grains glued together by silica or calcium carbonate.
- Granite is a plutonic igneous rock having visibly crystalline texture; generally composed of feldspar, mica and quartz
All three of the above mentioned stones are available throughout Ontario, with a wide variety of colours and textures.
